Barney Norris
Departmental Lecturer in Creative Writing
Barney brings the perspective of a practitioner to his teaching on the MSt in Creative Writing, with a practical, hands-on focus to workshop and seminar sessions. He is interested in exploring the fundamentals of creative projects and the development of coherent, long-term writerly identities. He has also developed a range of seminars on career development in the arts, and works to bring industry professionals into the programme to share their expertise.
Barney is presently developing a range of creative projects for fiction, stage and screen exploring the idea of home that centre principles of internationalism and collaboration. He is particularly interested in the theatre of Peter Gill and Athol Fugard, having worked closely with both during their lifetimes, and is developing a project on regionalism in the theatre in response to those experiences.
