Event Overview

Discover Oxford’s part-time MSt in the History of Design and find out where it could take you.

What can the objects, buildings and everyday environments around us reveal about the past? Join us for a free 45-minute online webinar exploring Oxford’s part-time MSt in the History of Design.

Meet Course Director Dr Claire O’Mahony, discover how the programme brings together visual and material analysis, archival research and historical enquiry, and find out what it’s like to study part-time at Oxford.

You’ll also have the opportunity to ask your questions live, whether you’d like to know more about the subject, the teaching format, balancing study with other commitments, or the wider Oxford experience.

During this 45-minute session, Course Director Dr Claire O’Mahony will introduce the MSt in the History of Design and give you an insight into studying the subject at Oxford.

You’ll find out:

  • who the course is designed for
  • what you’ll study and how the programme is taught
  • how online and in-person teaching work together
  • what to expect from assessment
  • what it’s like to study at Oxford as a part-time postgraduate student

The session will finish with a live Q&A, giving you the chance to put your questions directly to the Course Director.

Discover history through the objects and environments people designed, made and used.

Oxford’s two-year, part-time MSt in the History of Design explores how objects and places created since 1851 can reveal fascinating traces of historical experience.

You’ll learn to investigate design through close visual and material analysis, archival research and historical methodologies, developing the interpretative skills to understand objects and environments within their social and historical contexts.

The programme combines online and in-person teaching, making postgraduate study at Oxford more accessible to students around the world and to those balancing study with work, caring responsibilities and other commitments.

Explore the MSt in the History of Design and find out whether the programme is right for you.
