EBHC Africa Scholarship

Background:
The Masters’ courses in Evidence-Based Health Care are delivered in partnership with the Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine (Department of Primary Care Health Sciences) and Oxford Lifelong Learning. Both partners have a strong commitment to the principle of ensuring that Evidence-Based Medicine is available and accessible to everyone.
The Course Directors are therefore pleased to be able to offer a ‘course fees-only’ scholarship for applicants who are working in and have residency and nationality of the Lower Middle Income African countries listed below. This covers the annual award fees (for up to three years), along with module and dissertation fees. Travel, accommodation and subsistence costs are not included.
How to apply
Apply for the eligible courses for 2026 2027 entry via the usual University application form;
If you meet the residency and nationality eligibility criteria (see below) according to the information that you provide in your application, you will then be sent an additional application form for the scholarship.
Eligibility and Selection Criteria:
The scholarship is aimed at those who are working in, and have residency and nationality of, the following eligible countries:
Algeria, Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Congo (Democratic Republic) , Congo (Republic of) , Djibouti, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Libya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sao Tome and Principe, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, South Sudan, St Helena, Ascension, Tristan, Sudan, Tanzania, Togo, Tunisia, Uganda, Western Sahara, Zambia, Zimbabwe.
Your basic eligibility for the scholarship will be determined by the residency and nationality information that you provide in your university application form. All eligible candidates will then be invited to complete a short application form, where you will be asked to demonstrate your commitment, potential and intent to contribute to the, health, health care and/or health education, of one of the listed eligible countries, as well as your commitment to the values and principles of evidence-based health care. A selection panel will then short list candidates to be invited for an online interview. Eligible candidates can decline the invitation to apply if they wish.
Terms & Conditions:
- Only applications received by the late January deadline for the programme, as published on the Graduate Admissions course page, will be considered.
- You must have received an offer of admission to one of the Masters courses in the EBHC programme under usual selection procedures, thus, meeting all the standard entry criteria for the course.
- Funding will be available for a maximum of three years on course. You must intend to complete your studies within this timeframe.
- The funding available is for course fees only. The offer of a scholarship will be made conditional on your ability to fund accommodation/travel to the UK through personal and/or institutional finance.
- The offer of a scholarship will be conditional on subsequent successful visa applications (if you do not have the right to travel to the UK at the time of application.)
- You should be intending to return to your country of ordinary residence once you have completed your Masters course.
