This event offers an accessible but rigorous introduction to core ethical questions raised by artificial intelligence in contemporary society.

As AI systems increasingly influence decisions and practices in areas such as healthcare, education, law, employment, and everyday life, the event examines how ethical theories can be applied to current real-world challenges in the age of AI.

Key issues include fairness and bias, transparency, autonomy, responsibility, and the status of AI as a potential agent. Through interdisciplinary case studies, interactive discussion, and critical analysis, we will explore conceptual tools needed to engage with AI ethically, to illuminate ethical complexities of emerging technologies and to think philosophically about technological futures and fair, AI practices.

The event also considers the broader societal implications of use of AI, including its impact on work, mental health, inequality, and human decision-making. By engaging with these themes, you will develop conceptual understanding and critical skills needed to evaluate AI systems responsibly, to reflect on technological futures, and the development of fair, accountable, and human-centred AI practices.

Please note: this event will close to enrolments at 23:59 on 31 March 2027.
