Dr Christian L. Glossner

Departmental Lecturer

Christian is Professor of Economics and a long-standing lecturer and tutor in Global Political Economy at Oxford Lifelong (Department for Continuing Education), University of Oxford. Currently, he is also a Research Member of Common Room at Kellogg College, University of Oxford.

He studied at the University of Fribourg, Erasmus University Rotterdam, the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), and the University of Oxford. He has also undertaken executive and advanced academic training at London Business School (LBS), the University of St. Gallen (HSG), and Stanford University.

Alongside his academic career, Christian has worked with leading management consultancies, multinational corporations, and public sector institutions, including the Directorate-General for Economic and Financial Affairs (DG ECFIN) of the European Commission in Brussels. His work spans economic policy and entrepreneurship, bridging academic research with practical application.

Beyond academia, he is an entrepreneur and active business angel supporting innovative technology ventures; in this capacity, he is also a member of the Oxford University Business Angels Network and advises early-stage companies on strategy, growth, and business development.

An avid global traveller with a particular interest in regions beyond conventional tourist routes, Christian is committed to advancing international collaboration in sustainability and biodiversity conservation. His work promotes nature-based solutions that integrate environmental stewardship with economic and social development.

His research and professional contributions have been recognised through several prestigious distinctions, including the Scatcherd European Scholarship. He is also a Responsible Leader and member of the BMW Foundation’s Impact Circle, an international network dedicated to fostering cross-sector collaboration and developing innovative solutions to pressing global challenges.

Prior to his appointments at Oxford, he was lecturer at the Université de Fribourg (Switzerland) and held an Europaeum Research Fellowship at the Institut Universitaire de Hautes Études Internationales (IUHEI) in Geneva. Beyond, he taught and conducted research at various academic institutions including the University of Bonn, the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) and Tongji University in Shanghai.

His teaching is characterised by a holistic, evidence-based approach that integrates disciplinary expertise with the development of higher-order cognitive and meta-cognitive skills. He views university teaching not merely as the transmission of knowledge, but as the facilitation of deep and lasting learning.

Accordingly, he employs interactive, student-centred teaching methods that encourage active participation, critical reflection, and collaborative problem-solving. By aligning learning objectives, instructional activities, and assessment, he aims to create an inclusive learning environment in which students develop both subject-specific expertise and the skills required for independent inquiry, adaptive learning, and lifelong professional development.

His research interests and teaching expertise include political economy, economic theory, economic history, monetary policy, international relations, diplomacy, entrepreneurial ecosystems as well as entrepreneurship.
