Dive into a world of plant stories by joining this walking tour of Oxford Botanic Gardens, where hidden secrets of plant survival will be revealed.
Botanic Gardens are living laboratories, curating and conserving plant species from all over the world, whilst at the same time, educating and providing wonderful surroundings for humans. They house plants from different geographical origins, reflecting their diversity and ability to adapt. Being rooted to the ground, how do plants survive vastly different environments? Plants are not inactive, rather, they belong to an amazing branch of life forms that use many hidden mechanisms to thrive on this planet.
In this tour, we will explore the Oxford Botanic Gardens to observe the variety of plant adaptations that allow them to survive in contrasting environments. Plants provide us with so many things and are important for all life on Earth. We will pay attention to plants that changed the world, that are of economic, agricultural, and medicinal interest. This will be an opportunity to observe plants up close, learn about secrets of plants you may not have encountered, and appreciate their importance on this planet.

Dr Radhika Desikan
Dr Desikan is a plant scientist who has taught plant science for several years and researched and published on the behaviour of plants facing various abiotic and biotic stresses.
