Psychodynamic Studies Master’s Programme

The Master’s Programme in Psychodynamic Studies at the University of Oxford offers a structured pathway for postgraduate-level candidates to undertake part-time training in psychodynamic counselling, combining clinical practice with academic study and research.

The programme is delivered across three progressive awards:

  • Postgraduate Certificate in Psychodynamic Counselling
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Psychodynamic Practice
  • Master of Studies (MSt) in Psychodynamic Practice

Accredited by the Universities Psychotherapy and Counselling Association (UPCA), the programme enables students who complete all stages, alongside the required clinical hours, to become eligible for professional accreditation with the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) as psychotherapeutic counsellors. Graduates may also choose to apply independently for membership with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

The Postgraduate Certificate is offered annually, while the Diploma and MSt are delivered on a two-year cycle. In alternate years, a post-certificate seminar series provides an opportunity to consolidate learning, deepen psychodynamic understanding, and support progression to the next stage of training.
