Using Oxford as our setting and inspiration, this will be a workshop based, creative writing course for students of any ability and experience in writing.
Each day we will explore, practice and share key creative writing skills needed to create a classic ghost story. We will create a cast of characters - living and deceased! - and build a compelling supernatural mystery for your brave, or foolish, protagonist to unravel. We will describe real and imagined locations with a view to creating unsettling atmospheres.
'Students can work solo or in small groups on developing their stories but will write individually, so that everyone has some text to share on Friday. Location hunting will be involved, as will sharing of ideas and writing in a supportive context. Writing might be for film script or short story. Key writing skills for both genres will be explored and explained.
By Friday everyone will have written a key scene or chapter of their ghost story and can, if they wish, share it with their fellow writers to bring our week together to end an end with a chill!
This course is part of The Oxford Experience summer school, held at Christ Church.
