- Introduction to the class/course and the Middle-East.
- The Making of the Modern Middle-East – Sykes-Picot, British Mandate, etc.

The Arab-Israel Conflict, Past and Present – War and Peace, Peace and War
- From the 1948/9 war to the Oslo Accords.

Wednesday seminars
The Sunni-Shia Standoff – Saudi, the Gulf, Iran and the US + China.
- How a hegemonic contest between Saudi Arabia and its Sunni Arab regional allies on the one side and Iran and its network of Shia militias and other allies on the other has redefined the entire region in recent years. And the role all this played in the subsequent direct conflict between Iran and Israel.
Thursday seminars

- Examining the current dynamics in the region.
Friday seminars
Simulation Experience and Conclusion Session
- We end the course with a ‘Simulation Experience’, a fun yet instructive exercise with students in small teams playing the role of (competing!) regional governments responding to a simulated Middle-East scenario…
- …followed by a course wrap-up, drawing together all we have explored and consider where things may be going in the years to come.
