Lifelong learning

Radcliffe Camera, Oxford.

A new name, a renewed purpose, and a global ambition

We are excited to announce the launch of our new brand: Oxford Lifelong Learning.

This new identity marks an important milestone in our nearly 150-year history as a provider of part-time adult learning, in our ambition to extend the reach and impact for those who wish to experience the quality of an Oxford University education.

According to recent research by the Universities Association for Lifelong Learning (UALL) and Carrington Crisp, both employers and learners clearly state that education needs to be regarded as a lifelong endeavour. Oxford Lifelong Learning reflects the transformative power of learning throughout life.

However, this is more than a name change. It reflects our enduring mission, bold vision and deeply held values. At the heart of Oxford Lifelong Learning is a belief that education changes lives. Whether learning for personal enrichment, career development or intellectual curiosity, our students are supported to realise their potential and contribute meaningfully to their communities and the wider world.

It is clear that the non-traditional learner is shifting to become the ‘new traditional learner’ (Times Higher Education, 2023). Many adult learners are not interested in obtaining degrees and, amid fast technological change, these new traditional learners are focusing on acquiring more compact skillsets. Microcredentials obtained through short courses can be more rewarding and relevant to those looking to simply validate their learning or to develop their career professionally. Whether learners hope to pursue a qualification, gain new skills, or simply explore a subject they love, at Oxford Lifelong Learning, they will be a part of a community that believes in the transformative power of education at any age or stage.

This launch is not just a change in how we present ourselves; it is a renewed commitment to the people we serve and the power of learning to shape a better future.

We look forward to building the next chapter of our story.
