Lea Müller
Student spotlight details
We had the pleasure of meeting Lea Müller during her time on the Oxford Experience summer programme. Here, she shares her inspiring story, from her studies in business administration in Germany to exploring the intersection of politics, economics and democracy during her summer at Oxford.
'I am currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a focus on finance and international management. I have always been interested about how political systems and global governance shape financial markets. Before university, I served as a Junior Ambassador for the European Parliament, which first sparked my interest in the intersection between economics, politics, and international cooperation.
'When I first heard about the Oxford Experience programme, and speifically the course “Democratic Deficit: Is Democracy Going Out of Fashion?”, I was immediately intrigued. For anyone who aspires to work in the financial world, I believe it is essential to comprehend not only how markets function, but also the political and institutional contexts in which they operate. The course not only offered the perfect opportunity to bridge these dimensions in a world class academic environment but also perfectly represented the current times were living in.
'What I found most impressive about studying with Oxford Lifelong Learning was the academic quality and intellectual atmosphere. Our tutor was exceptionally knowledgeable, engaging, and passionate about the subject. The lectures and seminars challenged us to think critically about contemporary issues such as geopolitical tensions, the role of the United States and Europe, and the evolving nature of democracy. Every session we had thoughtful discussions with multiple perspectives, which made the learning process deeply enriching.
'Beyond the classroom, one of the most rewarding aspects was meeting such an inspiring and diverse group of fellow participants. Over lunches and dinners in Christ Church’s historic Dining Hall, we exchanged ideas and experiences from a wide range of academic, professional, and cultural backgrounds. These conversations were as educational as the formal sessions themselves, offering new insights into how people around the world view current events.
'The experience has had a lasting impact on both my personal and academic development. With its tradition and intellectual openness, Oxford was an amazing environment to learn and grow. For me it was the perfect opportunity to make the free time between my semester valuable.
'To anyone considering a course with Oxford Lifelong Learning, I would say: Go for it! The experience is academically and intellectually inspiring, and you will transform as a person with new ways of thinking and with the motivation to keep learning for life.
