Kiri Walden
Kiri has been teaching Film and Cultural Studies at OUDCE for over a decade. She started her career working in various roles (behind and in front of the camera) in film and TV before becoming an author and lecturer. She has been lucky enough to work with many ground-breaking directors. She has written books (published by Bloomsbury and Liverpool University Press) about the history of British film studios, entertainment during WW2 and the Michael Powell film Peeping Tom.
Courses
This course will explore the way different texts have been adapted from page to screen. We will look at a variety of original sources, from classic novels and plays to more recent texts, examining the mechanisms by which one form is adapted into another.
A course for film fans. We will introduce you to film studies by exploring the work of the greatest directors, cinematographers and actors. We will look at the history of Hollywood, and the classical film style it established.
Explore the crime fiction of Agatha Christie, examining her two most famous detectives: Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple. We’ll look at the historical contexts and narrative structures of some of Christie’s most successful whodunits.
This course will look at the pioneering women working in the Hollywood film industry, starting with the female directors of the silent era and continuing to look at the most influential women working in the film industry today.
